The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has nominated prominent Kolkata-based cultural personality, author and philanthropist, Sundeep Bhutoria, to the Board of Trustees of the Victoria Memorial Hall (VMH) for a three-year term.

New Delhi [India], June 14:  The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has officially nominated Sundeep Bhutoria—a distinguished Kolkata-based cultural figure, author, and philanthropist—to the Board of Trustees of the Victoria Memorial Hall (VMH) for a tenure of three years.

Reflecting on the appointment, Mr. Bhutoria remarked, “The Victoria Memorial Hall is deeply woven into Bengal’s cultural consciousness—a symbol of timeless art, architecture, and heritage. I am honoured to be associated with an institution that represents such a rich legacy, not just for Bengal but for the entire nation. I look forward to contributing meaningfully to its ongoing cultural mission.”
Currently, he also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Indian Museum, Kolkata, further demonstrating his commitment to India’s cultural institutions.

Mr. Bhutoria brings with him an impressive legacy of involvement in both cultural and philanthropic domains. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, London, and an active member of esteemed institutions, including the Royal Overseas League, Londonthe India International Centre (IIC)the India Habitat Centre (IHC), and the Rajasthan International Centre. He also serves as a trustee of the Education for All Trust.

Additionally, Mr. Bhutoria serves as a member of the Expert Committee for the Cultural Function and Production Grant under the Ministry of Culture, as well as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR). He also represents the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) as its Brand Ambassador.

This nomination underscores Mr. Bhutoria’s enduring contribution to India’s cultural landscape and highlights the Ministry’s recognition of individuals deeply invested in preserving and promoting the country’s artistic heritage.

Mr Bhutoria’s global impact includes representing India at United Nations Associations (UNA) forums. He was instrumental in setting up The WFUNA Foundation – an international non-profit organisation that promotes the principles and work of the United Nations. The WFUNA Foundation, launched in 2015 by the then Foreign Minister of India, Ms Sushma Swaraj, supports youth-led initiatives and works to advance the United Nations’ mission in India.

As Managing Trustee of the Prabha Khaitan Foundation (PKF), he actively promotes Indian art, literature, and culture across India, Europe, the United States, and West Asia. He is also engaged in preserving India’s folk art and culture. PKF is also involved in various social welfare activities that support children, women, and the elderly.

Mr Bhutoria has also curated popular branded cultural events like An Author’s Afternoon, Aakhar, Chaupal, Ek Mulakat, Kalam, Kitaab, Lafz, Tete-a-Tea, The Write Circle, and The Universe Writes. These events have created a series of social and cultural gatherings that bring together writers and literary groups from across the country and beyond.

Mr Bhutoria, who is also on the board of Petronet LNG Ltd., has launched numerous CSR projects for corporations. He is actively involved with prestigious organisations, such as The Bengal – a Kolkata-based NGO led by prominent citizens; and Pronam, a joint venture between The Bengal and the Kolkata Police to support senior citizens in Kolkata.
