Surat, Gujarat : A police sub-inspector was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe to the tune of Rs 5,000 by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) from Adajan police station in Surat on Monday.

Official sources said Nilam Jayanti Maru, a sub-inspector at the Adajan police station was caught accepting a bribe amount worth Rs 5,000 from a complainant.

The accused police officer had demanded a bribe from the complainant for not registering an FIR in the parking issue in his society. The complainant was tortured by the PSI following the scuffle in his society over the parking issue. The PSI was threatening the complainant that she would have to register an FIR due to the pressure from the opposite party.

When the complainant asked her to devise a middle way, the PSI asked for the bribe worth Rs 5,000. Since the complainant was not ready to pay the bribe amount, he approached the ACB and lodged the complaint against the sub-inspector.

The ACB sleuths laid a trap at the Adajan police station on Monday. It was after the telephonic conversation, the complainant agreed to meet her with the bribe money at the police station. However, the ACB sleuths laid a trap and arrested the sub-inspector while accepting the powered notes from the complainant.

Nilam Maru, sub-inspector of Adajan police station has been arrested under the corruption act and investigations are going on.
