Ahmedabad : The snowfall in North India over the last two days has significantly impacted Gujarat, bringing a cold wave that has sent temperatures plummeting across the state. Icy winds from the northwest have changed the wind direction over Gujarat, leading to a sharp dip in minimum temperatures by up to 5 degrees Celsius in many districts. According to the Meteorological Department, the state is expected to experience even colder conditions over the next three days, marking the season’s chilliest period.

Cold Wave to Grip Gujarat for Three Days

Weather experts had earlier predicted a resurgence of cold weather in Gujarat starting January 5, and the predictions have proven accurate. Minimum temperatures in most districts have dropped by 1 to 5 degrees Celsius within the last 24 hours. This has been most evident in regions such as Saurashtra-Kutch and North Gujarat, where the cold has intensified since last night. Central Gujarat is also expected to experience a significant chill in the coming days.

Residents, who had enjoyed a brief respite from the cold last week, are now bracing for a fresh wave of bone-chilling weather. Sweaters, blankets, and other winter essentials are being brought back into use as the mercury continues to drop.

Impact on South Gujarat

The cold wave has not spared South Gujarat either, with icy winds from the northeast causing a sudden temperature drop in cities like Surat. On Sunday, Surat’s maximum temperature plunged by a remarkable 5.6 degrees Celsius in just one day, significantly reducing the heat intensity during the afternoon. Over the next three days, the night temperature in Surat is expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees, settling between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius. Suratis are preparing for an intensified spell of cold.

Temperature Trends Across the State

The Meteorological Department’s latest data indicates a stark drop in temperatures across Gujarat. On Sunday, Surat recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 18.6 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels were measured at 72% in the morning and 46% in the evening, with winds blowing from the north at a speed of 6 km/h.

Naliya, known for its chilly conditions, recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 6.4 degrees Celsius over the last 24 hours. Rajkot also witnessed a dramatic drop in minimum temperature, falling by 5 degrees Celsius to 8.2 degrees. Ahmedabad recorded 13.5 degrees Celsius, Vadodara 14.2 degrees Celsius, and Surat 16.2 degrees Celsius as their respective minimum temperatures.

Season’s Coldest Days Ahead

Meteorological Department sources have warned that Gujarat is likely to experience the coldest days of the season in the coming week. The minimum temperature is expected to dip to 13 degrees Celsius, a level not yet seen this winter. Residents across the state are advised to prepare for the extreme chill as this new cold wave unfolds.
