Surat : In a significant move to strengthen the MSME textile and garment industry, the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has signed two key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Clothing Manufacturers’ Association of India (CMAI) and the Sachin Industrial Co-operative Society. This initiative aims to provide financial and technical assistance to industrialists in the textile sector, facilitating access to collateral-free loans and government schemes.

Under these agreements, MSME entrepreneurs will be eligible for collateral-free loans of up to Rs 5 crore at competitive interest rates, ensuring smoother access to capital. Notably, SIDBI has pledged to assist the textile industry by funding machinery repairs, upgrading water jet and air jet machines, and modernizing garment production facilities. The MoU also introduces an additional revenue stream for the Sachin Industrial Co-operative Society, which will earn fees for processing loan applications.

According to SIDBI officials, the initiative follows the directives of the Government of India to foster industry cooperation and support MSMEs in their growth journey. A key highlight of the scheme is the provision of direct loans to industrialists without requiring collateral. For those without collateral, a loan can still be secured by investing just 25% of the total loan amount. The Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) currently caps collateral-free loans at Rs 5 crore, but as per the latest budget announcement, this limit is set to increase to Rs 10 crore. Under this scheme, CGTMSE will provide financial backing for 90-95% of the funding.

The interest rate for these loans will range between 8.75% and 9.75%, depending on the credit rating of the borrowing unit. New industrial units can expect their funding process to be completed within 30 to 45 days. Additionally, SIDBI-approved projects will receive high priority in government support programs. The processing fee for loans under this scheme will range from 0.5% to 1%, depending on the financial stability of the business.

As part of this initiative, CMAI and the Sachin Industrial Co-Operative Society will establish SIDBI Help Centers within their offices. These centers will employ dedicated personnel to assist industrialists with loan applications, documentation, and processing. SIDBI will extend both financial and technical support to these help centers to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.

The textile industry holds strategic importance in India’s economic framework, and SIDBI has been given a pivotal role in implementing the new textile policy. Entrepreneurs who avail of financial assistance through SIDBI will also receive maximum benefits from various government schemes.

This collaboration is expected to serve as a significant boost to the textile and garment sector, offering favorable loan terms, a simplified application process, and access to essential government incentives. Industry experts believe that such initiatives will empower MSMEs and contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of the sector.
