SGCCI  Hosts South Gujarat’s First International Travel Trade Fair

SURAT : Surat has taken a major step towards becoming a key destination for the global tourism industry with the launch of the Global Travel Trade Fair (GTTF) 2026, the first international-level travel exhibition ever held in South Gujarat. Organized by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) in collaboration with TAAPI Travel Expo (TTE) 2026, the two-day event has brought together tourism stakeholders, travel companies and exhibitors from India and abroad under one roof.

The exhibition was inaugurated at the Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre (SIECC) in Sarsana by Purnesh Modi, Deputy Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly and MLA from Surat West.

Addressing the gathering, Modi stressed the importance of promoting domestic tourism. “When Indians travel within the country, Indian currency remains in India. Domestic tourism strengthens the economy, creates employment and promotes our rich cultural heritage,” he said.

He also highlighted the role of tourism in generating jobs for the unorganized sector and pointed to the Statue of Unity as an example of how tourism can transform regional economies.

SGCCI President Ashok Jirawala described GTTF 2026 as more than just an exhibition. “This is an international platform that brings the global tourism industry together. It offers excellent opportunities for both B2B and B2C networking while showcasing new destinations, travel services and tourism technologies,” he said.

He added that Surat’s rapid economic growth makes it an ideal venue for attracting tourism investments and expanding business partnerships.

Tourism entrepreneur Kantilal Sohagia said the sector now contributes more than 13% to India’s economy, compared to just 3% to 4% when he entered the business decades ago. “The tourism industry offers tremendous growth opportunities, and its future is extremely promising,” he said.
