Surat, Gujarat – A new era is set to dawn for South Gujarat’s industrial powerhouse as the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) prepares for its 85th installation ceremony in the diamond city of Surat on June 6. In a pivotal transition, Nikhil Madrasi will officially take the reins as the 79th President of SGCCI for the 2025-26 term, with Ashok Jirawala assuming the role of Vice-President. The leadership change comes with a clear, ambitious mandate: to elevate South Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem onto the global stage.

The ceremony, to be held at SIECC, Sarsana, will be attended by Union Minister of Jal Shakti, CR Paatil, as the special guest, alongside Ashish Kumar Chauhan, Managing Director & CEO of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited, serving as the Chief Guest.

Nikhil Madrasi’s vision for his presidency is encapsulated in the theme: “Building Global Connections, Empowering Local Strengths.” This isn’t just a slogan; it’s a strategic blueprint for transforming local industries into global competitors. “Our primary objective is to create an environment where every aspect of South Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem thrives,” Madrasi stated, outlining his immediate priorities. “We will provide robust platforms for our local industries to not only grow but also to become globally competitive.”

A key thrust of Madrasi’s tenure will be a vigorous membership drive, aiming to induct approximately 1,500 new members, with a particular focus on connecting local entrepreneurs, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and budding startups with the extensive resources and networks of the Chamber. “Many small businesses and startups struggle to find the right avenues for growth,” said a long-time SGCCI member. “Bringing them into the fold means they gain access to a powerful collective voice and critical support for their journey.”

To achieve its global aspirations, the SGCCI plans an aggressive calendar of events. Madrasi’s agenda includes organizing around 12 industry exhibitions and 12 business conclaves, meticulously designed to open new market avenues, foster strategic partnerships, and enhance networking opportunities for local businesses. Furthermore, 12 vendor development programs will be conducted to strengthen local supply chains, making them more resilient and adaptable to global demands.

Perhaps the most exciting initiative will be the launch of 10 global B2B connect programs, directly linking local entrepreneurs with their counterparts from various countries. “Imagine the possibilities when our Surat-based textile manufacturers can directly connect with buyers in Europe or our engineering firms can explore collaborations in the Middle East,” a senior SGCCI official enthused. “These direct connections are vital for increasing international trade.” Additionally, three specialized forums will be established to bridge the crucial gap between investors and local industries, stimulating much-needed capital flow into the region.

The SGCCI’s international footprint is also set to expand. Plans include making the Surat Economic Forum more dynamic and establishing three satellite chapters in key industrial zones, providing localized support for businesses. Crucially, new partnerships with international delegations will be forged, creating direct dialogues with global industry sectors to unlock international opportunities for South Gujarat businesses.

Recognizing the challenges faced by local industries, especially MSMEs, the new leadership is committed to strong advocacy. “We will make effective representations to both state and central governments to resolve long-standing issues affecting businesses in South Gujarat,” Madrasi affirmed. “It is our responsibility to ensure that the concerns of our industrial world are clearly presented to the government for the formulation and amendment of various policies.”

Beyond policy, the Chamber will champion skill development to foster a more trained workforce and guide industries in adopting modern technology for overall growth. Efforts will also focus on invigorating South Gujarat’s startup ecosystem through meetings with angel investors and promoting digital transformation and eco-friendly systems within industries.
