SBI & Rajasthan Women Sarpanch Neeru Yadav Host Financial Awareness Program
100+ Village Women curiously asks about Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
Jaipur : Villages in India are becoming more financially inclusive, and this is the beginning of the country’s next growth story. Sarpanch Neeru Yadav of the village of Lambi Ahir in Rajasthan took the necessary steps towards this planned development by partnering with SBI Jaipur and setting the stage for raising awareness of the government of India’s Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. This awareness campaign aimed to teach villagers the value of saving money so that they could send their daughters to college.
Over a hundred women attended the Financial Awareness Program hosted by SBI and Lambi Ahir, Buhana Tehsil – Sarpanch, Neeru Yadav.
“The village women equally contribute in the agriculture fields and manage to earn money by selling the agri produce,” said Neeru Yadav, Sarpanch of Lambi Ahir village in Rajasthan. Despite being the primary breadwinners for their households, they know little about how to save, invest, or manage their money in light of recent government initiatives. I hope to teach these mothers how to save money so they can send their daughters to college.
Almost all the women polled wanted to put money aside for their daughters’ college education. Representatives from SBI were successful in generating interest in opening Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts, and soon the participating women will have access to their funds.
Mr. RP Sharma, Asst General Manager – Government Business Unit (GBU) of State Bank of India’s Jaipur-based Local Head Office (LHO), stated, “We keep on doing such awareness programmes at village level, but I have seen the enthusiasm of Neeru Yadav – Lambi Ahir Village Sarpanch and upon response locally in the village, we have decided to extend our support by deputing a team in the village for regularly providing information on financial services such as savings,
Neeru Yadav, age 25, was recently elected as the Sarpanch of Lambi Ahir in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. Lambi Ahir is a Yadav-majority village located in close proximity to the Haryana border. When she formed a women’s hockey team in her village, the locals began referring to her as a Hockey Wali Sarpanch. She decided to give up her salary and start a fund to help get a hockey field, equipment, and a coach set up in her village. She’s been organising hockey tournaments between cities and states to inspire these young women to keep playing. Neeru Yadav has inspired the women of her village to break out of their comfort zones and do something extraordinary by providing encouragement and support to the girl hockey players.
