Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Ahmedabad witnessed high drama on Wednesday after retired DySP Ashoksinh Chauhan — accused of opening fire during a massive land dispute — allegedly created chaos inside the Satellite Police Station following his detention. The incident, tied to a ₹500 crore disputed property in Nehrunagar, has triggered sharp reactions across Gujarat’s law enforcement and legal circles.

According to police sources, Chauhan allegedly fired five rounds from his licensed weapon near Jhansi Ki Rani bus stand around 5 pm on May 27 during a heated confrontation over land documents and rent-related issues. Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite the firing taking place in a public area.

The incident escalated further after Chauhan was brought to the Satellite Police Station for questioning. Eyewitnesses and videos circulating online showed the retired officer shouting at policemen and accusing them of preventing him from speaking to the media. He also alleged that local police officials had “conspired” to allow land mafias and goons to encroach upon property linked to his family.

In dramatic scenes inside the police station, constables were seen physically restraining Chauhan before taking him to the lockup. His son and daughter were also detained in connection with the dispute.

“The law is equal for everyone, irrespective of rank or former designation,” a senior police official said, indicating that the matter was being treated with seriousness due to the firing in a crowded locality.

Police said the disputed property spans nearly five bighas and is estimated to be worth around ₹500 crore. The ownership battle is currently pending before a court between Chauhan and businessman Priyam Mehta. Investigators claim Chauhan’s family had long acted as caretakers of the land and later took possession of it.

Following the firing incident, teams from the Satellite Police Station and Crime Branch rushed to the spot and seized Chauhan’s firearm. Officials confirmed that legal action under the Arms Act and other relevant sections is being initiated.
