Surat | Gujarat — The diamond city of Surat has once again found itself in the headlines as police have launched an investigation into a rally of 25 black luxury cars that was taken out to welcome former MP Sher Singh Rana, who is currently out on bail in the Phoolandevi murder case. Videos of the Sher Singh Rana rally in Surat have gone viral on social media, sparking outrage over the blatant violation of traffic and legal norms.

Convoy of black cars rolled through Surat without permission

According to sources, Rashtriya Jan Lok Party (RJP) convener Sher Singh Rana arrived in Surat to attend public programs at Vadoli and Vank Kim in Olpad. In his honor, supporters organized a film-style rally, complete with a convoy of 25 black luxury sedans and SUVs that stretched across city roads.

The convoy reportedly moved from Surat airport to Olpad, ignoring all traffic regulations and causing chaos on public roads. The event was conducted without prior police or administrative permission, in direct violation of public safety laws.

Adding to the controversy, videos and reels of the rally were later uploaded on social media by Gujarat Karni Sena Yuva Karyakarta members, which helped expose the unauthorized event.

Activists welcomed Sher Singh Rana at the airport

Visuals circulating online show activists greeting Sher Singh Rana at the Surat airport with garlands and loud cheers. The grand reception, complete with luxury vehicles, has raised serious concerns about law enforcement and VIP treatment given to a person accused in a high-profile murder case.

Authorities have confirmed that the rally was carried out without any permission, and investigations are now underway to identify the organizers and participants responsible for violating the law.

Who is Sher Singh Rana?

Sher Singh Rana, whose real name is Pankaj Singh, gained national notoriety after being accused of murdering MP Phoolandevi in 2001, claiming it was to avenge the Behmai massacre.

He made headlines again in 2004 for his dramatic escape from Tihar Jail, reportedly fleeing to Afghanistan, from where he claimed to have brought back the ashes of Rajput king Prithviraj Chauhan to India. Currently, he leads his own political outfit, the Rashtriya Jan Lok Party, and was recently in the news for allegedly threatening a Samajwadi Party MP.

His controversial life has even inspired a Bollywood biopic, further adding to his infamy.

Police confirm investigation underway

DCP Shefali Barwal confirmed the investigation, stating,“We are currently verifying the viral videos to determine the facts. Information is being gathered on who invited Sher Singh Rana, where the event was organized, and whether any laws were violated.”
