Surat : A seminar focusing on NRI marriages and studying abroad was held at Bhagwan Mahavir University (BMU) in Surat on October 7. Jointly organized by the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Gujarat State Non-Resident Gujarat Foundation, the event aimed to raise awareness among students and young women about the challenges and precautions related to foreign marriages and education abroad.

Supreme Court lawyer Pritiben Joshi, one of the keynote speakers, urged young women to exercise caution before marrying an NRI. She highlighted the potential difficulties that could arise from differences in language, culture, legal systems, and financial conditions in foreign marriages. Joshi stressed the importance of gathering comprehensive information about potential foreign spouses and seeking legal advice before making such a life-altering decision.

Gujarat High Court lawyer S.P. Chhavia also addressed the audience, advising students planning to study abroad to be cautious. He emphasized the need for students to verify universities, curricula, and living conditions through the Indian Embassy before making any commitments. Chhavia also encouraged students to prioritize their safety while living in foreign countries.

Mrinal Shukla, honorary treasurer of the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, reinforced the importance of careful consideration when it comes to marriage, especially with foreign partners. He called on parents to guide their children thoughtfully through these decisions.

The seminar saw a large attendance of students, with Kalpesh Lathia, President of the Chamber’s NRG Center, overseeing the event. Paresh Lathia, Group Chairman of the Chamber, thanked all the participants, while Chetan Sheth, Co-Chairman of the NRG Center, and Snehal Vaghela, Principal-in-Charge of BMU, introduced the speakers.

Prominent figures such as Leenaben Jain, Trustee of BMU, Pro-Vost Dr. Manoj Kumar, Registrar Vijay Matwala, and several students were also present. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where Pritiben Joshi satisfactorily answered various queries from students.

The seminar served as a valuable platform for raising awareness about the challenges of NRI marriages and the precautions students should take when studying abroad, helping attendees make informed decisions about their futures.
