Surat | Gujarat — In a key administrative reshuffle by the Gujarat government, 2016-batch IAS officer Tejas Dilipbhai Parmar formally took charge as the new Collector and District Magistrate of Surat on May 18, signalling a fresh push for faster governance and development in one of India’s fastest-growing districts.

He replaces Dr. Saurabh Pardhi, who has been transferred as Director of the Civil Supplies Corporation in Gandhinagar.

Warm Welcome at Collector Office

The new Collector received a warm welcome at a formal ceremony held at the district Collector’s office, where senior administrative officials, department heads and prominent citizens gathered to greet him and wish him success in his new role.

Soon after assuming charge, Parmar chaired an introductory meeting with senior officers and reviewed the district’s geographical and administrative priorities. He also held detailed discussions on ongoing development works, infrastructure projects and the progress of government welfare schemes.

Officials said the meeting focused on improving transparency, speeding up service delivery and addressing pending public-interest issues.

Roots in Surat, Strong Administrative Experience

Originally from Palanpur in Banaskantha district, Parmar is known for his disciplined administrative approach and quick decision-making abilities. Notably, he completed his mechanical engineering studies from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) in Surat, making him familiar with the city’s culture and development landscape.

He secured All-India Rank 310 in the UPSC examination, becoming the first IAS officer from Palanpur. Before this posting, he served in key roles including Assistant Collector in Dahod, District Development Officer in Amreli, Deputy Secretary in the Urban Development Department, Managing Director of MGVCL, and Municipal Commissioner of Junagadh.

“Focus on Last-Mile Delivery”: Collector

Speaking to reporters after taking charge, Parmar said, “Today I have formally assumed charge as the Collector of Surat district. I feel honoured to join Surat’s ongoing development journey as a team member.”

He added that his priority will be ensuring that government welfare schemes reach every citizen efficiently. “My main effort will be to ensure that services reach the last person and that citizens receive timely and systematic support from the administration,” he said.
