Ahmedabad : Navsari women’s team came up with a stupendous show to claim a hard-fought 3-2 win over Gandhinagar in the women’s team qualifying rounds of the Servo Hypersport F5 Gujarat State and Inter-District Table Tennis Championships 2023 which is organized by Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) from September 27 to October 2 at the SAG Sports Complex, Khokara in Ahmedabad.
Indian Oil is the title sponsor while GMDC is the associate sponsor and the tournament is supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG). Stiga is the equipment partner of the tournament.
Going into the encounter, Gandhinagar-led by state ranked no.2 Radhapiriya Goel, were firm favorites but Navsari captain Siddhi Bulsara, Jahnavi Patel and Aastha Mistry sprung a huge surprise as they won their matches to go past the higher-ranked side.
Normalcy was restored as Ahmedabad women’s team blanked Vadodara 3-0 in their match-up.
In the men’s team qualifying event, Aravalli team had to dig deep against Rajkot before getting past them 3-2. Rajkot’s Jaynil Mehta was the star as he upset Aravalli captain Arman Shaikh in the opening match and then defeated Janmejay Patel to send shivers down the Aravalli team. However, Arman’s victory over seasoned Chintan Oza in the final match sealed the deal for Aravalli.
Surat men’s team had a smooth sailing against Gandhinagar with a comfortable 3-0 win while Bhavnagar too posted an easy 3-0 win over Vadodara.
Vadodara crushed Jamnagar 3-0 while Anand beat Gandhinagar with similar scores in the junior boys’ team qualifying rounds while in the junior girls’ event, Surat cleaned up Gandhinagar 3-0 and Bhavnagar thrashed Rajkot 3-0.
