Holders Ahmedabad to face first-timers Aravalli in men’s team final

Ahmedabad: Fantastic performances by captain Arman Shaikh and Janmejay Patel resulted in the underdogs Aravalli team upsetting Surat men’s team 3-1 to enter their first-ever men’s team final at the Servo Hypersport F5 Gujarat State and Inter-District Table Tennis Championships 2023 which is organized by Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) from September 27 to October 2 at the SAG Sports Complex, Khokara in Ahmedabad.

Indian Oil is the title sponsor while GMDC is the associate sponsor and the tournament is supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG). Stiga is the equipment partner of the tournament.

In the other semifinal, holders Ahmedabad brushed aside the Bhavnagar team with similar scores to stand a chance to defend their title in the final against Aravalli.

Living up to the billing, Surat women’s team decimated Navsari team 3-0 to book their final berth where they will take on a spirited Ahmedabad team which upset Bhavnagar courtesy some amazing performances by young Mouboni Chatterjee, Nidhi Prajapati and skipper Kausha Bhairapure.

Ahmedabad junior boys’ team managed a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Bhavnagar to book their berth in the final. They will take on high-flying Aravalli boys who thumped Surat once again in the other semifinals.

The junior girls’ team final will be played between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar. While Ahmedabad took care of Surat 3-0, Bhavnagar defeated Navsari 3-1.

In the sub-junior boys’ final, a dominant Ahmedabad side will take on an equally dangerous Bhavnagar team while in the girls’ event too, it will be Ahmedabad versus Bhavnagar clash for the title.
