Surat : Mehul Shah, Vice President of Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Gemmological Institute of India (GII). With over four decades of experience in the diamond industry, Shah brings extensive knowledge of diamond certification, grading, and technological advancements in gem detection.

Established in 1971, GII has played a crucial role in providing laboratory services, gemstone certification, and research for the diamonds, gems, and jewelry sector. The institute, backed by key industry organizations such as the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), BDB, DEAL, MDMA, and GJEA, is renowned for its contributions to diamond detection technology, including its proprietary Q CHECK machine.

Shah succeeds Anoop Mehta, who is credited with strengthening GII’s reputation by enhancing transparency and professionalism. Industry members have expressed confidence in Shah’s leadership, believing he will continue the institution’s legacy of excellence.

Expressing his gratitude, Shah acknowledged Mehta’s contributions and stated, “I thank Mr. Anoop Mehta for taking GII to its current heights. I will strive to meet his expectations and uphold the trust placed in me by the industry.”
