Kolkata (West Bengal) : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that stones were thrown at Vande Bharat Express in neighbouring Bihar, and not her state.

Banerjee further stated that media outlets that slandered her state would be held legally responsible.

“I’m writing to inform you that for the past three days, many television stations have disparaged Bengal. They have shown fake news and have spread fake information and brought disrepute to Bengal. The due process of law will be followed. This has not happened in Bengal, but in neighbouring Bihar. The residents of Bihar could possibly have a gripe. It is still against the law to insult Bihar, even if they have a complaint and have taken action. They, too, have a right to receive such services, and receiving them should not be withheld solely due to the fact that the BJP is not currently in power “Says Ms. Banerjee.

“There is nothing special about Vande Bharat. Simply an old train that has been given a new engine “As he put it.

Even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express, it was met with stone throwing just days later on Tuesday.

An investigation conducted by the railways reportedly uncovered a similar incident in Bihar, as stated in a statement released by Eastern Railways.

On Thursday, rail authorities said they had tracked down the individuals responsible for throwing stones at the train.

“Based on the video footage and photographs taken by CCTV camera fitted with the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat train, Railway has already identified stone throwers in video, and suitable action is being taken for conducting legal and penal proceedings against the offenders. Law enforcement at the state and federal levels have been notified to begin looking for the perpetrators and possibly making an arrest “According to a statement made by a railway spokesperson,
