Major fire erupts at Reliance Smart Bazaar in Surat

Surat (Gujarat) : A major fire broke out on the first and second floors of the Reliance Smart Bazaar in Surat’s Piplod area on Monday morning. The fire started on the second floor and spread to the first floor, but no one was wounded or killed in the incident.

According to Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) fire and emergency department sources, the incident occurred at Reliance Smart Bazaar in Piplod. The fire occurred when there was little traffic in the hypermarket store.

To gain entry, fire personnel had to break the window panes on the second floor using a hydraulic lift. Firefighters used water cannons continuously to extinguish the major fire on the second floor, which had spread to the first floor as well.

According to sources, the major fire reduced the goods in the hypermarket store to ashes. The fire tenders took more than an hour to bring the major fire in Reliance Smart Bazaar under control.

The fire could have started as a result of the short-circuit. However, the fire department will investigate the exact cause of the fire as well as whether the hypermarket had adequate fire safety equipment.

It is unfortunate that a company like Reliance Industries Limited took extra precautions to ensure the safety of visitors to the hypermarket. There would have been casualties if the incident had been reported in the middle of the day due to the major fire.
