Gandhinagar : With three recent Covid-19 cases surfacing in Gujarat, bringing the tally of active cases to 13, the state government assures readiness for the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January 2024, stating that the situation won’t pose a hindrance.

Health Minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel disclosed that two women returning from Rameshwaram tested positive for COVID-19 in Gandhinagar, with another case reported on December 20. Their samples have been dispatched for genome sequencing to ascertain if it involves a new variant strain.

Patel remained resolute, affirming the state’s preparedness for the 10th edition of the biennial summit, where over 72,000 individuals have already registered online. Echoing Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya’s statement, Patel sought to allay concerns, emphasizing the importance of vigilance without undue worry.

Assuring the public, Patel characterized the new strain as mild, stressing the significance of precautionary measures rather than alarm. He cited October’s history with 20 reported COVID-19 cases, indicating a continued proactive stance by the state government, bolstering facilities across civil hospitals in major cities. Enhanced provisions include normal beds, oxygen-equipped beds, and ventilator facilities.

In anticipation of a potential surge in cases, sources highlight the state government’s collaboration with private hospitals, ensuring a coordinated response.

While masks have not yet been mandated, authorities suggest their use, especially considering the influx of NRIs visiting Gujarat for vacations and wedding ceremonies during this period. Municipal corporations, particularly in Ahmedabad, are geared for random testing at urban and community health centers, part of proactive measures adopted by local authorities.

In light of these developments, the state remains on alert, amplifying efforts to mitigate the virus’s impact while keeping a watchful eye as the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit approaches.
