Vapi : Industries located in the Vapi Industrial Estate, including those in the paper, chemical, pigment, and textile sectors, are set to benefit from the use of treated water sourced from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) operated by Vapi Nagarpalika.

A meeting was recently held with stakeholders from various sectors, including the Vapi Industries Association (VIA) and regional commissioner of Nagarpalikas in South Gujarat, to discuss the implementation of treated water reuse in Vapi’s industrial area.

During the meeting, Dr. DD Kapadia, the regional commissioner, highlighted a recent order issued by the Hon’ble National Green Tribunal (NGT) urging industries to conserve water and adopt recycling processes to reduce the consumption of natural resources. He emphasized that Vapi Municipality currently operates a 14 MLD capacity STP, which disposes of 8 MLD of treated water. In the near future, the municipality plans to set up another STP with a capacity of 22 MLD, which will enable the Vapi Industrial Estate to utilize a significant quantity of treated water directly, benefiting the industrial members. Dr. Kapadia also assured the construction of a network system to facilitate the supply of treated water to industries.

Responding positively to Dr. Kapadia’s proposal, industry members expressed their appreciation and requested a thorough comparison between the treated water and the water currently supplied by the Vapi Notified Area Authority. This analysis would help determine and compare the various chemical and biological parameters present in the treated water, ensuring its suitability and safety for industrial consumption.

The utilization of treated water from Vapi Nagarpalika’s STP in industries located in Vapi presents several advantages. Firstly, it addresses the water conservation efforts advocated by the NGT, aiding in the reduction of water consumption from other sources. Additionally, it promotes sustainable practices by recycling water resources within the industrial sector. This initiative also aligns with the goal of achieving a circular economy, where resources are utilized efficiently and wastage is minimized.

The decision to provide treated water from Vapi Nagarpalika’s Sewage Treatment Plant to industries in the Vapi Industrial Estate marks a significant step towards sustainable water management and environmental conservation.

By reusing treated water, industries can contribute to water conservation efforts and reduce their dependence on traditional water sources. The collaborative efforts between the Vapi Municipality, regional authorities, and industry stakeholders demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibility and a vision for a more sustainable industrial ecosystem in the region.
