India’s Dubai Consul General Visits Bharat Diamond Bourse, Boosts India-UAE Diamond Trade Ties

MUMBAI :  Reinforcing the strong partnership between India’s and the UAE’s diamond industries, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Consul General of India to Dubai, visited the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai and held discussions with its committee members to strengthen bilateral trade and streamline import-export operations.

The visit provided the Consul General with a first-hand understanding of the functioning of the world’s largest diamond trading hub. He toured the BDB complex and observed the complete value chain, from the import of rough diamonds to the export of polished stones. He also reviewed the operations of the Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre (PCCCC), managed by Indian Customs, which facilitates seamless movement of diamond consignments.

India and the UAE continue to share one of the world’s strongest diamond trading partnerships, with bilateral trade in gems and jewellery reaching US$33.51 billion during FY2025-26.

During the visit, Reddy interacted with Mehul Shah, Vice President of Bharat Diamond Bourse, and other BDB committee members. The committee highlighted the close business ties between diamond companies in Mumbai and Dubai and emphasized the importance of regular engagement between the two trading centres.

“The continued support of the Indian Embassy in the UAE has played a key role in facilitating trade. We are confident that this visit will further ease the movement of import-export parcels between the two countries,” BDB committee members said.

Reddy praised the world-class infrastructure and operational standards at the Bourse.

“The professionalism and efficiency of the systems at Bharat Diamond Bourse reflect India’s leadership in the global diamond trade. The Indian Embassy in the UAE will continue extending full support to strengthen trade relations and facilitate smoother business operations,” he said.

Industry leaders believe the visit will further deepen cooperation between India and the UAE, enhancing trade efficiency and reinforcing the strategic partnership between two of the world’s leading diamond trading centres.
