Ektanagar : Former Secretary of Tourism, Arvind Singh, delivered an optimistic outlook for India tourism industry, forecasting a thriving USD 3 trillion economy by 2047.

Singh’s remarks were made at the 15th Annual Adventure Tourism Convention 2023, a high-spirited event culminating at the Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar on December 19. This gathering, orchestrated by the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India and backed by the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat, served as a prelude to the forthcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit scheduled for January 2024 in Gandhinagar.

Singh underscored the remarkable recovery of the tourism sector following the adversities of the Covid-19 pandemic, highlighting its resilience amidst challenging times. The convention drew in key governmental figures, industry mavens, global practitioners, and experts, all congregating to discuss the industry’s resurgence.

Hareet Shukla, additional secretary of Gujarat Tourism, emphasized Gujarat’s allure among international travelers, particularly noting a substantial uptick in tourist arrivals, especially post the development of the Statue of Unity.

Indian Supermodel, Milind Soman, lauded Gujarat’s commendable policies nurturing sustainable and eco-friendly adventure tourism. His endorsement echoed the region’s commitment to inspire similar practices globally.

The convention’s standout achievement lay in attaining carbon neutrality, setting an exemplary precedent for sustainable events. A stringent ‘Zero Plastic Waste’ policy resulted in the elimination of 15,000 plastic bottles, while an efficient energy consumption strategy led to a remarkable 68 percent reduction in energy usage.

Innovative measures like seed paper badges promoting reforestation and a transition to digital information dissemination not only minimized waste but also underscored a commitment to eco-conscious practices. Furthermore, 2000 sheets of paper were saved by going digital on providing information material along with the itinerary.

Moreover, the event facilitated the signing of MoUs worth Rs. 770 crore, focusing on film shooting and infrastructure development. As a testament to streamlined access, a dedicated Adventure Tourism in India website was launched on the event’s closing day.

This convention not only symbolized the resurgence of India’s tourism but also stood as a beacon of sustainability and progress, steering the industry toward a promising future.
