India Poised to Become Third-Largest Economy, Affirms EAM Dr. S Jaishankar during Surat Visit
Addressing a luncheon meeting hosted by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), Dr. Jaishankar expressed confidence in India's economic trajectory, projecting a $30 trillion economy within the next 25 years.
Surat : During his visit to Surat on Monday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S Jaishankar asserted India’s rapid ascent towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, highlighting the nation’s current position among the top five economies globally. Addressing a luncheon meeting hosted by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), Dr. Jaishankar expressed confidence in India’s economic trajectory, projecting a $30 trillion economy within the next 25 years.
“I am always delighted to return to Gujarat, as I never forget that I am your representative. It feels like a homecoming for me. Additionally, I firmly believe that the people of Gujarat are among the most globalized individuals in the world,” remarked Dr. Jaishankar, emphasizing the state’s pivotal role in India’s economic landscape.
Touching upon recent geopolitical tensions, Dr. Jaishankar addressed China’s claims regarding Arunachal Pradesh, unequivocally reaffirming India’s sovereignty over the region. “If today I change the name of your house, will it become mine? Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always be a state of India. Changing names does not have an effect… Our army is deployed there (Line of Actual Control),” stated Dr. Jaishankar, underscoring India’s unwavering stance on territorial integrity.
In response to the Surat Airport group’s representation, Dr. Jaishankar acknowledged the demand for an International Air Cargo Terminal and inclusion of Surat as a Point of Call in bilateral agreements. Recognizing the significance of air connectivity in fostering economic growth and prosperity, Dr. Jaishankar assured the delegation of the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and facilitating trade through Surat International Airport.
