Vaibhav Sooryavanshi found himself at the centre of controversy following a tense altercation with Sri Lanka A players after India A’s dramatic defeat in the Tri-Nation A Series match in Dambulla.

The incident took place after India A suffered a heartbreaking Super Over loss against Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Monday.

Heated Exchange After Match

According to reports, Sri Lanka A player Vishen Halambage allegedly sparked the confrontation after the match ended.

Reports claimed Halambage told the young Indian batter, “Match over… now you go home,” following Sri Lanka A’s victory.

The comment reportedly triggered a reaction from the 15-year-old Indian player, leading to a verbal exchange before Sooryavanshi allegedly pushed the Sri Lankan cricketer.

The situation quickly escalated as both players came face-to-face before teammates and officials intervened to separate them.

India Coach Sairaj Bahutale Breaks Silence

India spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutale described the incident as unfortunate but urged people not to jump to conclusions without knowing the full context.

Speaking during a press conference, Bahutale defended the youngster’s character and said:

“The way I know Vaibhav, he is a very composed boy.”

The former India spinner also stressed that both teams’ players should be guided properly regarding on-field behaviour and sportsmanship.

“Sri Lankan Players Should Also Be Educated”

Bahutale stated that responsibility for maintaining discipline lies with players from both sides.

According to him, young cricketers should be educated about handling pressure and emotions during competitive matches.

He added that the Sri Lankan players should also receive guidance regarding appropriate conduct on the field.

Team Management to Counsel Sooryavanshi

The Indian coach confirmed that the matter would be discussed internally with Sooryavanshi to help him understand the responsibilities that come with representing India at an international level.

Bahutale said the teenager is still learning and expressed confidence that he would avoid repeating such incidents in the future.

India A’s Final Hopes Under Pressure

Apart from the controversy, India A’s defeat has also placed their chances of reaching the Tri-Nation Series final in serious doubt.

Despite the heated scenes after the match, players from both teams later completed the customary post-match handshake before leaving the field.
