In a first, beggars in Surat were administered the Covid-19 vaccine.

Surat (Gujarat) [India), October 23 : For the first time in the country, about 200 beggars and street dwellers were administered the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, to commemorate the completion of 100 crore doses in the country on October 23.

A special vaccination camp was organized at the Mehdipur Balaji Dham for the beggars and street dwellers on Saturday. Around 200 beggars were administered the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

BJP State President, CR Paatil was invited to the special vaccination camp at Mehdipur Balaji Dham. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Surat Mayor, Hemali Boghawala, BJP City President, Niranjan Janjhmera, Kishore Bindal Surat BJP General Secretary, Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, and District Collector Ayush Oak.

Centre director Niranjan Agarwal and CA Ramakant Gupta, while talking with reporters, informed that the special vaccination of the beggars was organised to commemorate the completion of the 100 crore doses in India. This was the first such event where the beggars were vaccinated in India.

CA Ramakant Gupta said, “Nowhere in the country, the beggars would be vaccinated. This was our first attempt to vaccinate the vulnerable section of the society. Actually, beggars could be the super-spreaders of Covid-19”

Gupta added, “I had provided by identity details for registering 200 beggars for the vaccine.”

Trustee Sanjay Modha said that about 46,000 doses have been administered at the center so far.  KK Jain, Prashant Kedia, Pankaj Daga, Amit Kedia, Manoj Chhavcharia are providing daily services at the center.
