Navsari : As soon as the school vacation ends, children and parents start planning for picnics and other fun activities. Amusement parks and water parks are usually the go-to options, but Mohan Reading Cottage in Devdha village, Navsari, has emerged as a new and unique option for children and youth to enjoy nature with books during vacation.

Situated amidst the lush greenery of mango and chiku groves, Mohan Reading Cottage offers a natural library experience that is a refreshing change from traditional libraries. Instead of air conditioning or fans, readers can enjoy the cool breeze under the shade of mango and chiku trees while reading their favorite books.

The first natural library in Navsari, Gujarat, has recently made headlines for its unique and innovative approach to creating a sustainable and eco-friendly space for learning. Unlike traditional libraries, this library’s walls are made of cow dung, and it does not have an air conditioning system. Despite this, it can accommodate up to 1200 people and has a vast collection of books, making it a class apart from other libraries in the country.

The idea for the natural library came from Dr. Jai Vashi, who started it in memory of his grandfather, Mohan Vashi, who had a passion for books and wanted to instill the love of reading in children and youth. Dr. Vashi recognized the need for a library that was not only accessible but also provided a unique experience that combined nature with reading.

The library has become a popular destination for children and youth during vacation. Instead of spending their time in front of screens or in air-conditioned rooms, they can immerse themselves in books while surrounded by nature. The library’s collection of books caters to a wide range of interests, including fiction, non-fiction, and books on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects.

To promote reading and learning, a reading week was organized from April 27 to May 3, which saw a large turnout of students. Due to its popularity, the library will continue to remain open until the end of May.

Devdha village, where the library is located, is a beautiful region surrounded by mango and chiku fields, situated on the banks of the river Ambika in Ganadevi taluk of Navsari. It offers a peaceful and serene environment that is perfect for reading and learning.

In conclusion, Mohan Reading Cottage offers a unique and refreshing experience for children and youth during vacation. It combines the love of reading with nature, providing a serene and peaceful environment for readers to immerse themselves in books. The natural library is a testament to the power of books and how they can inspire and engage readers of all ages. If you are in Navsari during vacation, be sure to visit Mohan Reading Cottage and experience the joy of reading in nature.
