Surat | Gujarat — The Gujarati film industry is all shining with the annual turnover increasing by a whooping 300% in 2025, as compared to 2024. The primary reason behind such a massive increase in turnover is that after the Covid-19, movie-goers in Gujarat have returned to Gujarati films with a series of blockbuster films being released post-Covid-19.

Gujarati film director Naitik Rawal, who was speaking at the special session on ‘invaluable investment opportunities in Gujarati films’ organised by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), said, “After Covid-19, audiences have returned to Gujarati cinema with the release of dozens of good films. This has resulted in the turnover of Gujarat film industry registering a 300% increase compared to pre-Covid period”

“Filmmaking is also a business and therefore there are uncertainties and risks in it. There are mainly 4 models of film such as  finance, studio, equity, single production etc. Apart from film production, marketing costs are also incurred. Only those who have at least Rs.4 crores should think about film production. The producer also has to bear the exhibition charges.”

Explaining the role of distributors, Rawal said that now entire films are not bought, there is a fee or profit sharing. He also gave information about different rights. He said that it is better to invest in ten films than one.

SGCCI president Nikhil Madrasi said, “In the past,  I too used to work on stage. We have seen the glorious era of Gujarati films. Now, suddenly a Gujarati film comes and joins the 100 crore club. This surprises everyone. Therefore, today’s program is only for knowledge growth or is there such an opportunity and how many aspects are involved in film financing”

Paresh Vora said that Lalo Film is an exception. Even big banners like Dharma Production are now bringing Gujarati films. OTT platforms have already burnt everywhere, now the system has changed. Now OTT also decides the price by looking at the box office. Explaining the commerce behind the film, he said that you hear the figure of Rs.100 crores, in the first week, where 65% ratio is of exhibitors and 45% of producers in Gujarati films. No state government gives as much encouragement as the Gujarat government is providing for films in Gujarat.
