Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Just hours after suffering heartbreak in the IPL 2026 final, the Gujarat Titans found themselves facing a far more alarming situation off the field. The runners-up narrowly escaped a major accident late Sunday night when a short circuit reportedly triggered smoke inside the team bus while it was returning from Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium to the team hotel.
The incident occurred near Apollo Circle on the Ring Road close to Bhat village, where smoke was seen emerging from the bus carrying players and support staff. Quick action by the driver and local authorities ensured that everyone onboard was evacuated safely before the situation could escalate.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all players and team personnel escaped unharmed. However, the unexpected breakdown left the squad stranded on the roadside for nearly an hour before alternative transport arrangements were made.
According to reports, the Gujarat Titans contingent was travelling back to the hotel after a disappointing IPL 2026 final defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Led by captain Shubman Gill, the Titans had fallen short in their title bid, losing the summit clash by five wickets.
What should have been a routine journey back to the hotel turned into a tense episode when a technical fault developed in the vehicle. Officials immediately halted the bus and moved all occupants to a safe location as smoke spread through the vehicle following the suspected short circuit.
Adding a glimpse into the ordeal, Gujarat Titans fast bowler Mohammad Siraj shared an Instagram story late at night showing players sitting on the roadside. The image carried a simple caption — “breakdown” — and is believed to have been taken during the disruption. Soon after, photographs of the smoke-filled bus began circulating widely on social media, drawing concern from cricket fans across the country.
The incident capped off a difficult few days for the Gujarat Titans. Ahead of the final, the team had already faced logistical challenges when bad weather delayed their chartered flight to Ahmedabad by nearly three hours. The delay affected the team’s schedule and reportedly forced the postponement of a pre-final photoshoot involving captains Shubman Gill and Rajat Patidar.
