AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT : The security apparatus at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been significantly bolstered in the wake of the arrest of four suspected Islamic State (IS) terrorists at the Ahmedabad airport on Monday. This heightened security comes as the stadium gears up to host the much-anticipated first qualifier match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) today, featuring Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

With a large crowd expected for the high-profile clash, Ahmedabad police officials have prioritized ensuring the safety of fans and players.  “In light of recent developments, the police are on high alert,” stated an official. “A robust security presence will be maintained both inside and outside the stadium premises.”

Elaborating on the deployment, officials revealed that over 3,000 police personnel will be on duty, including senior officers like five Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and ten Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).  Additionally, more than 800 private security personnel will be present within the stadium.  A dedicated police convoy will also be stationed at the venue to swiftly respond to any potential incidents during the match.

The heightened security measures are a direct response to the arrest of four suspected IS terrorists at the Ahmedabad airport on May 20th.  Officials confirmed that the individuals, identified as Sri Lankan nationals, were apprehended before they could carry out any attacks during the ongoing IPL season.  Investigations revealed that the suspects had traveled from Sri Lanka to Chennai before arriving in Ahmedabad.

“The arrest of these individuals has prompted increased vigilance and the implementation of comprehensive security arrangements,” stated an official. “Our top priority is to safeguard the fans and players attending today’s match.”
