Gujarat : SVPI Airport Sets New Record with Highest Passenger Count of 1.15 Crore in 2023-24

Ahmedabad : Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad soared to new heights as it celebrated a remarkable milestone, witnessing its highest-ever passenger count in the ongoing financial year of 2023-24. The airport, renowned for its diverse offerings catering to both leisure and business travelers, set a high benchmark by serving 1,15,63,887 passengers, accompanied by 87,634 Aircraft Traffic Movements (ATMs).
This surge has solidified SVPI Airport‘s position as a pivotal hub in India’s aviation landscape, surpassing its previous records and redefining standards in passenger service and connectivity.However, propelled by its array of amenities and strategic initiatives, SVPIA has witnessed a remarkable surge in air traffic in recent months.
In the current fiscal year of 2023-24, as of March 25th, SVPI Airport has registered an impressive tally of over 1,15,87,899 passengers, marking a substantial 14% growth compared to the previous year’s figure of 1,01,78,749 passengers served by Ahmedabad Airport. Furthermore, Aircraft Traffic Movements (ATMs) have seen a commendable 7% increase, with 88,305 flights arriving and departing from the airport during the same period.
This surge in passenger traffic reflects the airport’s relentless efforts in transformation and expansion. SVPI Airport now facilitates an average of over 245 daily flight movements, serving a diverse clientele of 32,150 domestic and international passengers across its two terminals. Notably, the General Aviation terminal has emerged as a crucial support hub for major events such as the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, G20, U20, and World Cup matches, contributing significantly to the surge in passenger numbers.
SVPI Airport has prioritized infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and satisfaction. Notable improvements include the implementation of Digi Yatra at Terminal 1 (T-1) for expedited boarding access, self-baggage drop services, and dedicated pickup and drop lanes. The expansion of E-gates, enhanced baggage services, and the forecourt expansion with an arrival plaza have further streamlined passenger flows and amenities.
The International Terminal (T-2) has undergone extensive modernization, featuring upgraded arrival and departure immigration areas to elevate the international passenger experience. Additionally, new facilities such as the International-to-International (I-to-I) Transfer Facility and an expanded Security Check Area have been introduced to facilitate smoother transitions for passengers with international connections. The introduction of an intercity bus service to Rajkot and the incorporation of Gujarat’s rich heritage into the terminal’s design add to the airport’s appeal and cultural significance.
Looking ahead, Ahmedabad Airport is poised for further expansion in its network offerings. The upcoming summer schedule promises connections to over 40 domestic destinations served by 8 airlines, along with 16 international destinations served by 22 airlines. Direct flights to emerging sectors such as Gwalior, Nanded, Siliguri, Rajkot (Hirasar), and Aurangabad, coupled with increased connectivity to Jabalpur, Visakhapatnam, and Coimbatore via through flights, underscore SVPIA’s commitment to enhancing regional and international connectivity.
