Rajkot : The Resident Doctor of the Orthopedic Department of the Trauma Center at Rajkot Civil Hospital, Chirag Vaghela, has been suspended for a period of 7 days with a salary deduction for mistakenly transfusing the wrong blood to an elderly patient admitted to the trauma centre. Additionally, a report will be forwarded to the Gandhinagar head office for further disciplinary action against the doctor, emphasizing the gravity of negligence in medical duties.

The decision comes after an investigation into allegations made by the patient’s relatives, revealing a critical lapse in medical care.

After a serious medical mistake on January 19th, the superintendent of Rajkot Civil Hospital made a swift and decisive move. After suffering injuries in a motorbike accident, 62-year-old Dinesh Ramnik Gondhia was taken to the trauma centre with a shattered hip. Gondhia needed an immediate transfusion of ‘O’ group blood since she lost a lot of blood during the procedure at the trauma centre.

But a disastrous error occurred when the attending physician accidentally gave Gondhia B positive blood from another patient, which caused her condition to quickly worsen. On because of the gravity of the mistake, the patient had to be put on a ventilator right away.

Dr. R.S. Trivedi, the Civil Superintendent, wasted no time in launching an inquiry into the patient’s family’s claims of carelessness. Following the formation of a committee to investigate the occurrence, it was determined that the doctor had been careless throughout the blood transfusion procedure.

Strict steps will be taken to avoid future occurrences of this kind, according to the Medical Superintendent. Blood transfusions shall only be performed in the presence of all resident physicians and nursing personnel from all departments. You will get specialised training in the following 15 days. The main focus will be on taking blood temperatures and using cross-matching slides to make sure the blood from donors and recipients are compatible.
