Gujarat : Rajkot Police Introduce Campus Complaint Boxes for Students’ Safety
This measure aims to provide a secure avenue for students to report harassment or any other issues they encounter on campus or in their vicinity without the necessity of visiting police stations.
Rajkot : In a proactive move towards ensuring student safety, Rajkot police in Gujarat have implemented a novel initiative by placing complaint boxes across all schools and college campuses.
This measure aims to provide a secure avenue for students to report harassment or any other issues they encounter on campus or in their vicinity without the necessity of visiting police stations.
Police Commissioner Raju Bhargav directed all police station heads to install these complaint boxes within educational institutions. R G Barot, Police Inspector, confirmed the implementation of this program in 40 schools within the city.
Barot highlighted instances where students faced harassment, eve-teasing, sexual abuse, or mental distress within the campus premises or during their commute to and from educational facilities.
Often, students refrained from reporting such incidents due to fear of reprisal or lack of support from their family or peers. Recognizing this challenge, the initiative aims to create a secure platform encouraging students to report issues confidently, ensuring appropriate action against perpetrators.
Efforts were made to sensitize students from classes VIII to XII by conducting meetings at school campuses. These sessions aimed to familiarize students with the newly established facility, assuring them of anonymity when reporting issues.
Students were encouraged to utilize the complaint boxes to report concerns involving teaching and non-teaching staff, promising a confidential and responsive approach towards addressing their grievances.
