Gandhinagar : Recognizing the press as the fourth pillar of democracy, the Gujarat Government has reinforced its commitment to journalist welfare through the “Fit Media, Fit India” campaign. Launched by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on October 15 in Ahmedabad, the initiative aimed to promote the health and well-being of journalists across the state. This landmark campaign, organized by the Information and Broadcasting Department in collaboration with the Gujarat Red Cross Society, ran from October 15 to December 19, reaching all district headquarters.

A Comprehensive Approach to Journalist Health

Under the leadership of CM Bhupendra Patel, Secretary of the Information and Broadcasting Department Smt. Avantika Singh, and Director of Information Shri K.L. Bachani, free health check-up camps were conducted across Gujarat. These camps catered to 1,532 journalists and media personnel, offering a range of essential diagnostic tests and health guidance.

The health camps provided services including:

Blood tests, X-rays, and ECGs

Screenings for Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, cholesterol, thyroid, and diabetes

Personalized health guidance and lifestyle recommendations

Shri Ajay Patel, Chairman of the Gujarat Red Cross Society, emphasized the meticulous planning behind these camps. He noted that a prior camp in Ahmedabad had successfully benefitted 518 journalists, helping detect and prevent serious illnesses.

Strengthening the Fourth Pillar

The initiative highlights the Gujarat Government’s dedication to the welfare of those who tirelessly report news and safeguard democracy. Journalists, often working under immense pressure and irregular schedules, face significant health risks. The “Fit Media, Fit India” campaign not only addressed these challenges but also reinforced the government’s focus on good governance and public welfare.

Journalists Express Gratitude

The campaign received widespread appreciation from journalists across Gujarat. Many praised the Information and Broadcasting Department for its proactive approach to ensuring their well-being. The department, in turn, acknowledged the invaluable support of the Gujarat Red Cross Society in executing the campaign.

By prioritizing journalist welfare, the Gujarat Government has set a benchmark for other states, underscoring the importance of a healthy press in upholding democratic values. The success of “Fit Media, Fit India” serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts between government bodies and organizations like the Red Cross Society.
