Bharuch : The Bharuch district administration has issued a notification prohibiting the entry of heavy vehicles, including trucks, dumpers, buses, and private luxury buses, on the Narmada Maiya Bridge for three months. This decision comes after a surge in minor and major accidents involving heavy vehicles on the bridge since its inauguration in June 2021.

The Narmada Maiya Bridge, built parallel to the historic Golden Bridge, was initially hailed as a solution to traffic congestion in the Ankleshwar-Bharuch region. However, residents have raised concerns about the increasing number of accidents, particularly at night, due to the reckless driving of heavy vehicles and large private buses.

Videos and photos shared on social media by residents showcased instances of dangerous driving on the bridge, prompting demands for stricter regulations. The Bharuch district administration, acknowledging these concerns and citing heavy traffic jams caused by heavy vehicles at the ABC junction, has implemented this temporary ban.

The ban will remain in effect until May 4, 2024. Violators will face penalties as per the established traffic rules. This move aims to improve road safety and ensure smoother traffic flow on the Narmada Maiya Bridge for smaller vehicles and pedestrians.

While the ban may cause inconvenience to some heavy vehicle operators, the Bharuch district administration prioritizes public safety and aims to address the residents’ concerns effectively. Alternative routes for heavy vehicles will be designated to minimize disruption during this period.
