Gujarat has country’s second lowest unemployment rate in India after Odisha

Surat (Gujarat) : When compared to other states in the country, Gujarat has a relatively low rate of youth unemployment. Gujarat has the second-lowest unemployment rate in the country, at 2.3%, behind only Odisha, while Haryana has the highest, at 37.4%.

The rankings were released on Sunday by the Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE), which reported that India’s unemployment rate rose to 8.30% in December from 8.00% in November, the highest level in 16 months. The report found that while the unemployment rate in rural areas fell to 7.44% in December from 7.55% in November, it rose to 10.09% in urban areas. Among the states, Haryana has the highest unemployment rate at 37.4%. While Odisha’s unemployment rate of 0.9% was the lowest in the country.

The monthly data on the national unemployment rate was published by CMIE. The highest unemployment rate in the country was recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic, and it had been steadily declining since then up until the end of the year 2022. In India, the jobless rate spiked to 8.30% in the final month of 2022, the highest level in 16 months.
