Surat (Gujarat): They may be political opponents in the election, but they greet each other with love and affection in public. On Thursday, Alpesh Kathiriya, a former Patidar agitation leader and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate on Varachha, took the blessings of BJP sitting MLA Kumar Kanani by touching his feet and folding his hands outside the polling booth in the Patidar-dominated Varachha assembly constituency.
Alpesh Kathiriya and the entire team of the AAP in Surat have thrown their weight to capture the Varachha assembly seat from the BJP. During the highly charged election campaigning, a series of incidents were reported where the AAP and BJP workers came face to face. A few days ago, the BJP karyalaya of the BJP candidate Kumar Kanani was pelted with stones by the AAP workers over some issue.
On Thursday, Alpesh and Kumar Kanani reached at the polling booth in Varachha. On seeing Kumar Kanani approaching the booth, Alpesh Kathiriya, who was wearing a yellow turban and was decorated with flowers, approached Kanani and took his blessing by touching his feet. This happened right outside the polling booth when both leaders reached there to cast their franchise.
Alpesh Kathiriya, throughout his public meetings and rallies, would ask the audiences to speak after him. He would say, “Varachha ma Joye (I want in Varachha)..then the audience would say, “Parivartan) (Change)”
