Gujarat: DRI arrests man from Surat airport travelling to Sharjah with 2 lakh Dirhams in cash

Surat : The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended a man on Friday as he prepared to board a Sharjah-Surat flight from Surat airport with 2 lakh Dirhams (Rs. 45 lakh) in cash hidden in a book and his luggage.
According to sources, the accused lives in Surat’s Unn neighbourhood. He had 2 lakh Dirhams in cash hidden in his book and luggage. DRI received a tip about the suspect who was flying from Surat airport to Sharjah with the cash.
According to the investigation, the accused was scheduled to fly to Dubai from Sharjah on an international flight from Surat airport. The accused intended to buy gold worth Rs 45 lakh and transport it to Surat for resale to buyers.
Surat airport was home to DRI sleuths. They apprehended the man who matched his description as soon as they found him at the Surat airport. The DRI team discovered 2 lakh dirhams hidden in a book and some scattered in his luggage during their investigation.
The currency notes were seized by DRI, and a case was filed. Further investigation is being conducted.
