AHMEDABAD : Claiming a financial misbehavior involving the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), Gujarat Congress Chief Shaktisinh Gohil has made grave accusations of corruption involving land allotments valued at Rs 1,200 crore. Speaking during a news conference on Monday, Gohil showed records and government resolutions he claimed expose wrongdoing, hence causing a Rs 350 crore loss to the state exchequer.

Gohil explained the purported scheme, saying, “Land allocation had corruption of Rs 1,220 crore. The BJP government disregarded public interest and allowed applications for land for chemical companies when China stopped manufacturing chemicals. Originally seeing the land as a saturated zone with a projected rate of Rs 2,780 per square meter, the GIDC Management Board decided to sell it. The price would have been driven over Rs 10,000 per square meter by an auction.”

Gohil says, nonetheless, that there was a dubious bargain involved. “The same management board changed its mind six months later and issued another resolution reversing the land price to be Rs 2,780 per square meter. This quick reversal raises major questions. Guidelines published by the Supreme Court declaring that government property cannot be assigned without a competitive offer,” he said.

Emphasizing responsibility and openness, Gohil called for a court inquiry. “I have asked a High Court or Supreme Court seated Judge to investigate. This is a serious corruption problem that calls careful investigation.

The claims of the Gujarat Congress Chief have exposed the differences in the GIDC’s decision-making process and imply possible financial misbehavior and cooperation inside the state government. The records he provided allegedly demonstrate how the initial decision to auction the land at market rates was reversed, therefore costing the state significant financial loss.

Shaktisinh Gohil’s disclosures are probably going to cause political upheaval and urge the Gujarat BJP leadership to respond to the allegations. The demand for a judicial inquiry by the opposition emphasizes the seriousness of the claims and the necessity of an unbiased research to guarantee justice and openness.
