Gujarat CM Flags off Electric Double-Decker Buses at GIFT City

These buses, operated by the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), marked their debut in the pre-Vibrant event staged at the Gandhinagar International Finance Tec City (GIFT). With an aim to elevate commuting experiences while reducing carbon footprint, the air-conditioned double-decker electric buses are set to commence their maiden voyage on the Mahatma Mandir to GIFT City route starting Monday, running for a week.

Ahmedabad : Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated a pioneering venture by launching two state-of-the-art electric double-decker buses at GIFT City. The grand unveiling took place amidst the fervor of the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, adding a futuristic touch to the state’s transportation landscape.

These buses, operated by the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), marked their debut in the pre-Vibrant event staged at the Gandhinagar International Finance Tec City (GIFT). With an aim to elevate commuting experiences while reducing carbon footprint, the air-conditioned double-decker electric buses are set to commence their maiden voyage on the Mahatma Mandir to GIFT City route starting Monday, running for a week.

The ceremonial inauguration witnessed not only the Chief Minister but also the Minister of State for Transport, Harsh Sanghavi, joining the maiden ride. Notable personalities such as GIFT City’s chairman Hasmukh Adhia, Managing Director Tapan Ray, along with Additional Chief Secretary MK Das and GSRTC Managing Director MA Gandhi, also participated in this inaugural journey.

These buses, propelled by a 231 kW battery, stand as a testament to Gujarat’s commitment to sustainable transportation solutions. Plans are afoot for GSRTC to acquire five such air-conditioned buses, heralding a new era of clean and efficient public transit.

Scheduled to operate from January 8th to the 13th between GIFT City and Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, these buses will eventually integrate into the regular Sarkhej-Gandhinagar-GIFT City route post the summit, promising a greener commute for residents and visitors alike.
