Valsad : A quick response from the railway patrol team prevented an attempt to overturn a train near Balitha crossing in Vapi late on Tuesday night.

Official sources said that some unidentified individuals attempted to overturn a train by placing a cement pole on the railway track near Balitha crossing in Vapi, Gujarat. The heavy cement pole would have caused a train to overturn on the track, resulting in heavy loss of the railway property and human lives.

However, the patrol team of the railway department found the obstruction and informed the higher authorities. A team of the railway department immediately rushed to the spot and prevented a disaster by stopping an approaching goods train.

The cement pole, taken from a nearby railway construction site, was placed between poles 17 and 19 at kilometre 173 on the Valsad-Mumbai route. Railway workers, involved in laying an electric line on the corridor, noticed the cement pole and reported it to the contractor and railway officials.

Technical staff, railway officials from Valsad and Mumbai, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and the Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to investigate the incident. DRM Neeraj Verma, who inspected the site, confirmed the attempt to derail the train. Railway and security officials, including RPF and GRP, are investigating the incident.
