Gandhinagar | Gujarat — Gujarat has approved the SOP for implementation of CM Green Ring Road Development Scheme for well-organized urban transport and efficient road network by promoting climate resilient and sustainable infrastructure in the Municipalities of the State.

The State Government has made a budget provision of Rs. 200 crore for such Green Ring Roads to be developed by Urban Local Bodies in urban areas.

The main objective of this scheme is to provide fast connectivity between different parts of the city without entering the main part of the city and to provide connectivity by developing ring roads around the city to divert traffic away from the city center.

Not only this, the issues of diversion, control and management of the increasing traffic load in urban areas with modern and smart technology have also been covered.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, an Advisory Committee of experts with knowledge, experience and necessary skills in this field was formed under the chairmanship of the Principal Secretary to prepare the SOP of the Green Ring Road Development Scheme.

As per the recommendations of this expert committee, the objective has also been kept to promote the increased use of advanced green-clean construction technology and materials in the construction of such ring roads.

Along with enhancing the beauty and eco-friendly values of the cities, the issue of creating a robust and minimum maintenance infrastructure has been included in the SOP of this Ring Road Development Scheme.

Under the sustainable integration for the Green Ring Road, carriageway, median and shoulders, drainage and storm water management, road utilities, tree plantation and traffic management and road safety facilities have also been covered.

In the metropolitan cities where the Green Ring Road is developed under this scheme, the SOP has also been decided to give priority to the use of 25 percent recycled material out of the total material used in road construction to reduce the need for renewable resources and boost the circular economy.

In addition, the Municipal Corporations have been advised to plan such that maximum renewable energy is used out of the total energy consumed in such Green Ring Road projects.

Considering the complexity and scale of the project for the development of this Green Ring Road, the implementation of the Green Ring Road project has to be done as per the guidelines and SOP prescribed by the State Government from time to time. Technical and environmental review of the DPR related to the project will also have to be carried out.

The vision of building smart sustainable cities given by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel through the celebration of Urban Development Year 2025 will be given a new direction by this Chief Minister Green Ring Road Development Scheme with Climate Resilient Road Infrastructure.
