Ahmedabad : The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against corruption by apprehending Ankit Panchal, a RTO Inspector stationed at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Palanpur, along with an accomplice, Bharat Patel, in connection with a bribery case.

The unfolding of events began when a complainant, employed in an auto advisory office, found himself entangled in a web of corruption upon frequenting the Palanpur RTO office for various administrative tasks related to his clients’ vehicles. It was during one such visit that Ankit Panchal, the accused RTO Inspector, allegedly demanded a sum of Rs. 11,700 from the complainant through his middleman, Bharat Patel, ostensibly for payment of a pending bill.

However, when the complainant refused to comply with the demand, citing reluctance to engage in corrupt practices, the accused RTO officer purportedly resorted to stalling the processing of the complainant’s files for three consecutive days. This coercive tactic aimed to pressure the complainant into yielding to the bribe demand.

Left with no recourse, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a formal complaint against the corrupt practices unfolding at the Palanpur RTO office. In response, the ACB swiftly initiated a bribe trap operation to ensnare the perpetrators in the act.

During the meticulously planned operation, the ACB caught Bharat Patel red-handed as he accepted the bribe money on behalf of Ankit Panchal. Furthermore, incriminating evidence was uncovered, revealing telephonic communication between the accused RTO Inspector and his middleman, confirming their involvement in the illicit scheme.
