Ahmedabad, Gujarat – In a swift crackdown, the Gujarat Police has filed FIRs against 14 individuals for posting anti-national, false, and demoralising content on social media during Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian Army amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions.
This tough action comes following strict instructions by Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi, who said, “No one will be allowed to break the morale of our armed forces or spread hatred against the nation under the guise of free speech.”
The Gujarat Police’s Intelligence Branch and Social Media Monitoring Unit had been closely watching digital platforms for objectionable content. Posts that spread false information, rumours, or attempted to tarnish the image and morale of the Indian Army were flagged for immediate legal action.
State DGP Vikas Sahay personally oversaw the process. “We reviewed every post that could potentially harm national integrity or create panic. Those who crossed the line will face the law,” he asserted.
A total of 14 FIRs have been registered across the state:
Kheda – 2 FIRs
Bhuj – 2 FIRs
Jamnagar, Junagadh, Vapi, Banaskantha, Anand, Ahmedabad, Surat City, Vadodara, Patan and Godhra – 1 FIR each
All accused have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act for inciting public disorder, spreading misinformation, and undermining national security.
The accused individuals had posted content that either supported hostile narratives or questioned the Army’s operations during the sensitive cross-border standoff. The government made it clear that such activities will not be tolerated, especially during national operations.
Officials confirmed that this is part of a larger operation to curb online misinformation and propaganda. Additional monitoring is ongoing, and further arrests are likely if more evidence surfaces.
