SURAT,GUJARAT : Hundreds of passengers faced travel disruptions on Tuesday evening following the derailment of six wagons of a goods train at Palghar yard, located around 175 kilometers from Surat, Gujarat. The incident, which occurred at approximately 5:08 PM, significantly impacted train services on the crucial Mumbai-Surat railway section.
The derailment, which involved six wagons and one Brake Van Guard (BVG) at point number 117/118 within the Palghar yard, severely affected the UP line (northbound line) on the Mumbai-Surat route. Railway authorities immediately initiated restoration efforts, deploying Accident Relief Trains (ART) from Nandurbar, Udhna, Bandra Terminus, and Valsad to the scene.
The disruption caused several long-distance trains to be diverted. Trains such as the 16505 Gandhidham-SBC Express, 12432 Nizamuddin-Trivandrum Rajdhani Express, and 19260 Bhavnagar-Kochuveli Express were rerouted via Surat-Udhna-Jalgaon-Kalyan, significantly extending their travel times.
The impact cascaded onto suburban train services as well. Six local trains running between Dahanu and Churchgate, three in each direction, were cancelled. Additionally, one southbound Dahanu local train was terminated at Virar, further inconveniencing passengers traveling shorter distances.
Several other trains originating or terminating in Surat faced short terminations due to the single-line operation on the affected route. These included the 12936 Surat-Mumbai Intercity Express (terminated at Vapi), 09160 Valsad-Bandra Terminus Express (terminated at Umbargaon Road), 09186 Kanpur-Mumbai Central Express (terminated at Sachin), 09056 Udhna-Bandra Terminus Express (terminated at Bhilad), 19426 Nandurbar-Borivali Express (terminated at Valsad), 19102 Surat-Virar Express (terminated at Bilimora), and 09180 Surat-Virar Express (terminated at Udhna).
