FWWB Hosts National Meet on Gender, Climate & Agriculture in Delhi

Ahmedabad, Gujarat – Ahmedabad-based Friends of Women’s World Network (FWWB) organised a high-level national consultation on gender, agriculture, and climate issues at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on April 25, 2025. The event brought together actors from government, civil society, academia, and development to discuss gender, agriculture, and climate-related issues in a unique initiative.

Neha Kansara, COO of FWWB, initiated the consultancy. She stated that the event’s objective is to highlight women’s role in the agriculture sector and consider the implications of gender and climate change in India.

S.S. Bhatt, CEO of FWWB, presented the context of the event and said that it aims to strengthen the agriculture system and give the right direction to groups by bringing together members of civil society, government, research groups, regional experts, technical institutions, and other related thought leaders. The consultation will incorporate suggestions from the discussions and recommendations that will enable agriculture to be both gender-inclusive and climate-resilient, while addressing the existing barriers faced by farmers in the system.

The consultation saw the participation of senior actors from different sectors. Michel van Ael, Agriculture Counsellor at the Dutch Embassy, a retired retail executive, and President of NAFPO; Parvesh Sharma, Regional Director of the Ford Foundation; Reshma Anand, Board Member of FWWB; and Girija Srinivasan participated in the keynote session (Plenary). In addition, Takayuki Hagiwara, FAO Representative to India, shared his views on the intersections between food security, agricultural technology, climate adaptation and gender inclusion.

The various discussions and contributions from stakeholders helped shape recommendations and opinions in the final session, which will help prepare a future action plan.
