Former Daman District Panchayat President, Suresh Patel convicted by Daman court in a murder case

Daman [India], January 04: The Daman Court has sentenced former president of Daman District Panchayat, Suresh Jagu Patel alias Sukha in connection with the sensational double murder case registered with the Nani Daman police in the Union Territory of Daman here on Tuesday.
According to the charge sheet filed in the Daman Court, Sukha was on the run since the day of the double murder reported in Nani Daman. He was the mastermind of the murders and that his name was later added to the complaint. Earlier, the police have arrested 13 accused involved in the murders, and that they are in judicial custody.
A few assailants indulged in indiscriminate firing at Vishal Bar and Restaurant at Nani Daman’s Dabhel on April 1, 2018. Ajay Raman Patel alias Manjro and Dhirendra Durlabh Patel alias Dhiru were shot dead in the firing. The Nani Daman police registered an offense under sections 341, 302, and Arms Act against the unidentified assailants.
Sukha managed to escape from his office when the Daman police went to take his stamen on October 21, 2019. Since then he was on the run.
Sukha’s elder brother Ramesh Patel alias Michael is a wanted bootlegger and has been earlier arrested in multiple cases by the cops of different police stations of South Gujarat. Ramesh was controlling the entire bootlegging network of IMFL that was pumped in Gujarat.
Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had taken action against Ramesh Patel under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and seized his properties and cash worth several crores of rupees in Daman.
The Daman Court has sentenced four years of rigorous imprisonment to Sukha Patel and a fine amount worth Rs 25,000.
