EV charging stations established by SMC turn into parking zones in Surat

Surat : Despite the fact that the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) installed over twenty-five public smart Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across the city to promote green energy, most of the charging zones have become parking zones for cars and two-wheelers. Since not many people with electric vehicles are using the charging stations, parking has become a major issue.

On Friday, reporters from The Blunt Times stopped by a number of the SMC’s electric vehicle (EV) charging stations located throughout the city. The EV charging stations have surprisingly become parking lots.

About five vehicles were parked in the shade of an electric vehicle charging station in Athwalines, close to the Surat Officer’s Gymkhana. There has been no activity at the charging station, and the two units have been collecting dust since no owners of electric vehicles have come to use them.

The proprietor of a store in the SMC plot in Chowpaty garden expressed interest in seeing how charging stations for electric vehicles were set up. Since its grand opening, no one has stopped by this charging station.

The EV charging station provides welcome shade for car owners who are visiting the Circuit House of the State Government or the Athwa traffic police chowky, he said.

When it comes to the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in India, Surat is at the forefront. The city has seen an increase of roughly 16,831 electric vehicles in less than a year. The city is expected to be known as “Electric Vehicle City” in India due to the rising popularity of electric vehicles.

The city of Surat has announced the EV policy with the intention of encouraging the widespread adoption of EVs throughout the city. The adoption rate of electric vehicles is directly correlated to the Air Quality Index (AQI).
