Daman (Union Territory) [India]: The next time you visit the Union Territory of Daman, you won’t be able to get into the sea for fun and bathing at any of the beaches. To avoid drowning incidences during the monsoon season, the Daman Administration has prohibited tourists visiting Daman from swimming or bathing in the sea.

Tapasya Raghav, district collector of Daman issued a notification on Friday stating that the tourists including foreigners and those from the nearby State of Gujarat as well as residents of Daman will not be allowed to venture into the sea to swim or have a bath at all the beaches of Daman, especially Jampore beach, Moti Daman beach, Nani Daman beach, and Devka beach to prevent the incidents of drowning and to prevent danger to the human life.

Jampore and Moti Daman beaches are the most favourite spots for the tourists to hang around and venture into the sea waters for swimming. Recently, two tourists from Gujarat, who had ventured into the deep sea at Jampore beach were rescued by the Daman Coast Guard.

Official sources said the sea is rough due to the monsoon season and there are all possibilities of loss of human life. However, tourists will not be able to swim in the sea at all the beaches in Daman.

The Daman police have launched a surveillance drive on all the beaches in Daman. Those caught venturing in the sea will be dealt with stringent legal action.
