Congress Workers Protest Poor Road Conditions, Block NH-56 in Surat

Surat : Several Congress workers, including former Congress MLA Anand Chaudhary, were taken into custody by the Surat rural police on Thursday after attempting to obstruct National Highway (56) on the Mandvi-Jhankhvav road in Surat district. Congress workers clashed with police, leading to a tense atmosphere as tires were set ablaze in protest of the highway’s poor condition.

The activists encircled the police vehicle as several workers and a former Congress MLA were taken into custody for creating a traffic obstruction. 

In response to the activists’ outrage, authorities decided to release the former MLA. The situation on National Highway 56 is becoming increasingly problematic due to the Congress, which is contributing to a significant traffic jam as the road remains in a state of disrepair. There have been multiple incidents resulting from the poor condition of the road, leading to tragic losses of life. In a significant move, Congress has taken action to halt the highway, insisting on the urgent repair of the crumbling road.

Members of Congress, including former MLA Anand Chaudhary, blocked the highway, insisting on urgent repairs to be made. Members of Congress raised their voices in protest, criticizing the inadequate performance of the national highway department, claiming that the deteriorating road conditions are leading to accidents. In the aftermath of the Congress’s Chakkajam, congestion was reported on the Mandvi-Jhankhvav Highway. A 10 km long line of vehicles has formed as a result of the Chakkajam. The community members participated in the Congress’ demonstration. With residents rallying together, a lengthy procession of vehicles stretched for 10 km along the highway. Motorists are encountering significant challenges in arriving at their destinations because of the traffic congestion.

A traffic congestion was reported near Maldha Phata in Mandvi. Authorities responded swiftly following an incident where residents set tires ablaze amid a traffic dispute. A significant police presence was observed on the National Highway, causing traffic disruptions and the burning of tires. A confrontation occurred between the community members and law enforcement.
