Ahmedabad: The Indian National Congress is set to host its 64th National Convention in Gujarat after a gap of 64 years, marking a historic political event in the state. The last time the Congress National Convention was held in Gujarat was in Bhavnagar in 1961. This time, the convention is scheduled for April 8-9, 2025, with discussions focusing on political strategies, constitutional challenges, and future roadmaps.

To finalize the venue, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal arrived in Ahmedabad and held a meeting at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) office on Tuesday. During this meeting, responsibilities were assigned to state leaders for organizing the massive gathering.

Congress’ Renewed Focus on Gujarat

K.C. Venugopal, in a tweet, emphasized the significance of the upcoming convention, stating:“I have come to Gujarat to select the venue of the National Convention. We are moving forward with the legacy of Gandhiji and Sardar Patel. Currently, there are many challenges for the Congress in Gujarat, which we accept. The Congress will focus on Gujarat by overcoming the challenges.”

The AICC convention is expected to bring together Congress representatives from across the country. Key topics on the agenda include the BJP-led government’s alleged attacks on the Constitution, anti-people policies, and the roadmap for the party’s future political strategies.

Congress Eyes Revival in Gujarat with Mission-2027

The Congress party has been struggling in Gujarat for the past three decades, facing multiple electoral defeats, including a significant loss in the recent local body elections. With the 2027 Gujarat Assembly elections in sight, Congress is strategizing for a political comeback, using the convention as a crucial event to mobilize support and strengthen its base.

100th Anniversary of the 1924 Belagavi Congress Session

The upcoming convention also carries historical significance, as it marks the 100th anniversary of the 1924 Belagavi Congress session, where Mahatma Gandhi assumed the presidency of the Indian National Congress. In 2023, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) held an expanded meeting in Belagavi, adopting resolutions that will now be discussed further in the AICC convention in Gujarat.

Top Congress Leadership to Attend

The Congress National Convention 2025 will commence on April 8 with a meeting of the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC). On April 9, a full-fledged meeting of All India Congress Committee (AICC) representatives will take place, presided over by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Several senior Congress leaders will be in attendance, including:Sonia Gandhi,Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha,Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states,National office bearers and AICC representatives.

With this major event, the Congress party aims to regain its political footing in Gujarat and chart a roadmap for the 2027 elections.
