Gandhinagar | Gujarat — The Commonwealth Sport Team has arrived on its first official visit to Gujarat to review the preparations for the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Gujarat and Ahmedabad in 2030.

A five-member delegation under the chairmanship of Dr Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, along with officials of the Indian Olympic Association, will be visiting Gujarat from April 8 to April 11.

The delegation commenced its Gujarat visit with a courtesy visit to Chief Minister  Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. Commonwealth Sport President Donald Rukare and CEO atie Sadleir appreciated the warm welcome and hospitality extended to them in Gujarat.

CM stated that, guided by the mantra of time-bound, high-quality, and effective planning given by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the State Government is committed to successfully organising the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030 through teamwork.

Highlighting that the Commonwealth Games-2030 will mark the Centenary Commonwealth Games, Dr Donald Rukare described the opportunity for Gujarat and Ahmedabad to host the event as a matter of great pride. He lauded the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the strong encouragement extended to sports.

CM assured the Commonwealth Sport Team and the Indian Olympic Association that the State Government will provide all necessary facilities and infrastructure to ensure the successful organisation of the Commonwealth Games 2030.

The President and CEO of the Commonwealth Sport Team extended an invitation to Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel to attend the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Glasgow from July 2026 to August 2, 2026, to observe and study the event planning and operations.

Accepting the invitation, CM assured that a delegation from Gujarat would participate in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Commonwealth Sport Team President Dr Donald Rukare expressed eagerness to work together through collective teamwork to ensure that the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030 in Gujarat emerge as a grand sporting festival showcasing cultural vibrancy as well.

During this visit, the Commonwealth Sport delegation will conduct site visits to review preparations at the venues proposed for the Commonwealth Games-2030, including Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Narendra Modi Stadium, EKA Arena in Ahmedabad, Vadodara Cricket Stadium, and Ekta Nagar – Statue of Unity.

Principal Secretary Ashwini Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister  Sanjeev Kumar, Additional Principal Secretary Dr Vikrant Pandey, DG of the Sports Authority of Gujarat  Vala, and other senior officials also joined Chief Minister  Bhupendra Patel for the meeting.
