Surat, Gujarat — In a major push to transform Surat from a textile capital into a full-fledged garment manufacturing powerhouse, the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) – Gujarat Chapter has launched the first-ever ‘CMAI Garment Conclave and Fashionova 2025’ at Avadh Utopia, Surat on July 5. This landmark national event marks a new era for the city’s apparel sector, blending technology, sustainability, and industry insight into one transformative platform.

“Surat is Ready for Garment Industry Leadership”

Speaking about the significance of the event, Dr. Ajoy Bhattacharya, Chairman of CMAI (Gujarat), said, “For the first time, Surat will witness such a grand conclave of industry leaders. Surat already supplies fabrics to brands like Raymond, Jade Blue, and Pantaloons. Our aim is to turn this strength into a complete garment manufacturing ecosystem.”

The conclave witnessed participation from renowned national brands, industry experts, government officials, and financial institutions, including SIDBI, highlighting Surat’s rising potential as a hub for stitching, design, and innovation.

“50,000 Machines Today, 2.5 Lakh in 3 Years”

Mayur Golwala, Secretary of CMAI (Gujarat), highlighted the exponential growth potential, “Surat currently houses more than 50,000 stitching machines. We anticipate this number to reach 2.5 lakh machines within 3 to 4 years, which would make Surat a formidable garmenting hub in India.”

Panel discussions covered artificial intelligence (AI) in manufacturing, sustainability, government policies, and MSME schemes, with participation from officials of the Gujarat and Chhattisgarh governments and a UNIDO representative.

Fashionova 2025: The Creative Pulse of the Industry

The day concluded with ‘Fashionova 2025’, a stunning fashion show featuring over 120 students from IDT centers in Surat, Muzaffarpur, and Junagadh. With 22 unique themes, the show embodied the future of sustainable and cultural fashion.

Some standout segments included:

“Operation Sindoor” – A moving collection reflecting strength and resilience.

Eco-friendly collections – Using sustainable fabrics and zero-waste designs.

Chhattisgarh-inspired garments – Designed by Surat entrepreneurs using local organic materials.

Traditional arts in fashion – Ensembles inspired by Kalamkari, Madhubani, and other Indian art forms.

A Turning Point for Surat

This event is more than just a show—it’s a strategic step in positioning Surat on the global garment map. With structured industry collaboration, creative innovation, and strong policy backing, Surat is now set to redefine its identity—from fabric supplier to garment design and manufacturing hub.

As Dr. Bhattacharya aptly put it, “This is not just a fashion show. It’s a movement to transform Surat into a global garmenting destination.”
